Durham and Darlington SPA is an NHS service providing a single point of access for all maternity referrals in the If you live in the County Durham and Darlington area, please use this form to refer yourself to our maternity services.. The aim is to make sure you have access to the right care from day one. Durham and Darlington SPA will triage your referral based on the information you provide and the hospital will contact you to start your antenatal care. In the meantime if you are worried about your pregnancy, please tell your GP straight away.

If you don’t hear anything by 8 weeks please contact us on the numbers below. Here's what to do next to give you and your baby the healthiest start possible: 1. Take Pregnancy Vitamins Take folic acid (at least 400mcg) until 12 weeks and start/continue taking vitamin D daily throughout pregnancy. If you're eligible for Healthy Start Vouchers, you may get help with the cost. 2. Vaccines You will be offered Flu, Whooping Cough and RSV vaccinations within pregnancy. Check with your GP if you are unsure if you have had your MMR vaccination. 3.Stop Smoking Stopping smoking is the most important thing you can do to improve yours and your baby’s health. Free support is available throughout pregnancy for you and your family. 4.Avoid Alcohol No amount of alcohol is safe in pregnancy. If you drink regularly or find it hard to stop, support is available—don’t be afraid to ask for help. 5.Medications and Substance Use Tell your midwife or GP about all medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, or recreational drugs. Never stop or change prescribed medications without medical advice. 6.Eat Well & Stay Active Focus on a healthy, balanced diet with fibre-rich foods and gentle activity like walking or swimming is safe and encouraged. 7.Your Mental Health Matters Pregnancy can bring up lots of emotions. If you have a mental health condition—or just don’t feel like yourself—support is available. Never stop mental health medication without advice. Most importantly …No question is too small.
